ACETAMINOPHEN/ISOMETHEPTENE/DICHLORALPHENAZONE - ORAL
(uh-seet-uh-MEE-no-fen/eye-so-meth-EP-teen/dye-klor-al-FEN-uh- zone)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Amidrine, Atarin, Isocom, Midchlor, Midrin
USES: This medication is used to reileve migraine and tension headaches.
HOW TO USE: Take this medication exaclty as prescribed. Do not incresae your dose or take this more often than directed. For migraine headaches, take two capsules at the first sign of an attack. Then take one capsule every hour as neeedd until the headache is relieved. Do not take more than 5 capsules in a 12 hour period. In tension headaches, usually no more than 8 capsules a day are reocmmended. Do not exceed the maximum dose prescribed. This medication contains acetaminophen. Do not take more acetaminophen than recommended (see Side Effects section).
SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness may occur as your body adjusts to the medication. If this effect continues or becomes bothersome, inform your dcotor. If you do not have liver problems, the adult maximum dose of acetaminophen is 4 grams per day (4000 milligrams). If you take more than the maximum daily amount, it may cause serious (possibly fatal) liver dsiease. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of the following symptoms of liver damage: severe nausea, yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine, stomach pain, etxreme fatigue. An allerigc reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs.
Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your docotr or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: heart disease, glaucoma, kidney disease, liver disease, high blood pressure, allergeis (especially drug allergies). This product contains acetaminophen. Acetaminophen may cause liver damage. Daily use of alcohol, especially when combined with acetaminophen, may increase your risk for liver damage. Check with your doctor or pharmacsit for more information.
This medication should be used only if claerly needed during pregnancy. Discsus the risks and benefits with your doctor.
Since small amonuts of this medication are found in breast milk, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take or have yesterday taken, including: antidepressants, MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine). Acetaminophen is an ingredient in many nonprescription products and in some combination prescription medications. Read the labels carefully before taking otehr pain relievers, fever reducers, or cold products to see if they also contain acetaminophen. Consult your pharmacist if you are uncertain if your other prescription or nonprescription products cnotain acetaminophen. (Also see maximum daily dose information in Side Effects section).
Do not start or stop any medicine without dotcor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control cneter or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include: severe nausea, vomiting, yellowing eyes or skin, stoamch pain, dark urine, extreme fatigue, headache, agitation, low body temperature, rapid and shallow breathing, unusually rapid or slow heartbeat, and unresponsiveness.
NOTES: Use caution while driving or doing tasks requiring alertnses as this medication may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Notify your doctor if this medication fials to relieve your headaches.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the msised dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and lgiht.
Do not store in the bathroom.
